Most disappointing heat pump installations are not bad appliances — they are good appliances asked to run at boiler flow temperatures through emitters that were never reassessed. That is how people end up with high electricity bills and a lukewarm house.

We start with a full heat loss survey of the property: construction, glazing, insulation, air changes and exposure, room by room. That determines the unit size, the emitter sizes, the cylinder and the pipework. Only then does a price make any sense.

Grant funding — what you could get

The Government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme is available to homeowners and small businesses in England and Wales replacing a fossil fuel or electric heating system. It is not means tested, there is no income requirement, and the grant is deducted from your quote up front rather than claimed back afterwards.

Zero-rate VAT also applies to qualifying installations, so there is no VAT to add on top. For much of rural Lincolnshire on oil or LPG, the £9,000 figure is the one that matters — and it is time limited.

Grant-funded installations must be carried out under MCS certification, which we deliver through our MCS partner. The survey, design, installation and commissioning are ours; the certification, consumer code membership and grant administration are handled through the partnership, so you deal with one company throughout and the grant simply comes off your price.

Is your property suitable?

Some are, some are not, and some need work first. A poorly insulated property with small radiators can be made to work, but the honest answer is that it costs more and the savings are smaller. We would rather tell you that at survey stage than after installation.
